AgriVET: identifying the skills needed for the future of agribusiness

What skills does the agribusiness sector need most? This is the key question addressed by the second project result of AgriVET, the Skills Gap Analysis Report, which examines the gap between the skills currently available and those required by the labour market across agribusiness value chains.

The report was developed with the contribution of key sector stakeholders, including vocational education and training (VET) providers, companies, and policy and institutional actors. Bringing together these different perspectives made it possible to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the skills needs currently shaping the sector.

The analysis identified the most significant skills gaps, highlighting the areas where the distance between available skills and those demanded by the labour market is greatest.

It also identified priority areas for future training and emerging skills needs across agribusiness value chains. Understanding these developments is essential to ensure that training provision can evolve in line with the sector’s ongoing transformation.

Another important focus of the report is identifying opportunities to strengthen the connection between vocational education and training and the labour market, helping to ensure greater alignment between training pathways and the skills actually required by companies.

The findings of the Skills Gap Analysis Report therefore provide an important reference point for the next stages of AgriVET. The evidence gathered will guide the development of the project’s training methodology and learning modules, contributing to the creation of practical, relevant training resources that respond directly to the needs of the agribusiness sector.

With this second project result, AgriVET is moving from research to action, transforming identified skills needs into learning tools and training pathways that can help build more sustainable and resilient agribusiness value chains.
